WHO WE ARE
The UDW Resource Center (URC) is a dynamic nonprofit workers center that provides organizing support, training and education with home care workers and family child care providers in the public and private sectors throughout California. URC is a space for these workers to organize themselves for better wages and working conditions, to change the care economy to benefit all Californians, and to organize for social, racial, and economic justice. We are dedicated to promoting the dignity and wellbeing of caregivers through leadership development, education, and material support such as food, housing, and healthcare. URC works in partnership with UDW/AFSCME Local 3930 on multiple projects and serves all home care and family child care providers regardless of union affiliation.
OUR PROGRAMS
Family Child Care Educator Apprenticeship Program
Working closely with UDW and family child care providers to plan and design a new family child care apprenticeship program, starting with a pilot in San Diego.
Community College Classes & Support:
Free and very low-cost classes and certification programs and wrap-around services that increase educational access for care workers and their families. In support of UDW/AFSCME Local 3930’s new partnership with the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office.
Leadership in Organizing
Initiative
Initiative
Leadership Academy for private sector home care workers to learn how to organize themselves for better wages and working conditions and to increase access to care for all Californians
Disaster Relief - San Diego
Providing critical support to caregivers affected by flooding, offering emergency assistance and resources to help them recover and sustain their livelihoods during challenging times. We plan to expand this program to other areas of the state that are regularly negatively impacted by natural disasters and climate change-related disruptions.
Homecare Cooperative Initiative
Offering free training to caregivers, to empower them with the skills and knowledge needed to establish and operate successful home care cooperatives, enhancing the quality of care and creating sustainable employment opportunities. In partnership with the Pilipino Workers Center.
