The Founding of URC

The UDW Resource Center was founded by UDW/AFSCME Local 3930 as an independent non-profit. UDW represents IHSS providers who are publicly paid home care workers for older Californians and for the disabled of all ages, as well as family child care providers in dozens of counties throughout California. No home care workers employed by private agencies belong to a union in California or anywhere else in the United States, and private sector home care workers are paid very low wages and often suffer from wage theft. Home care workers in the private sector mostly work for very small private agencies. Some of UDW's members work in both the public and the private sectors.

The UDW Resource Center provides organizing support to workers in the care economy to organize, from childcare to long-term care, regardless of union affiliation. The URC will organize with care workers particularly in rural counties and counties in Central California and southern Southern California such as San Diego, Orange, Riverside, and Imperial Counties.
